Water & Food for Aus / Lüderitz: Chicken Farm – Namibia

Chicken farm program

LNW is an NGO that develops programs with an economic background based on the model WATER – LIFE – EDUCATION – WORK. The team has set itself the goal of activating a disused chicken farm in AUS – Namibia and putting it back on an economic footing with a new marketing structure. The business idea is intended to offer young families in Aus a realistic chance of being able to produce their own food in the future and earning an income from selling the products.

Transfer of the rights to use the chicken farm

Before the start of the program, an official letter will be sent to the community leaders granting LNW, as the main sponsor, the right to use the existing chicken farm. One person is assigned by LNW to take over the management of the chicken farm, who is in constant contact with the head office in Europe.

Educational program

So that the participants have the theoretical basic knowledge of poultry farming and egg production, a person with the main responsibility is sent to a training course in poultry farming at the Sentratek company in Windhoek. He will take over the management for the local participants and pass on the knowledge he has acquired to the training participants.

Purchase of 100 laying hens

Initially, 100 laying hens are to be purchased, which are primarily intended for the production of eggs. Later, fattening chickens can also be purchased, with which the chicken meat production is planned.

Food production

The eggs are to be used by LNW for training in food production such as pasta products and bread & baked goods are used. The goods are then to be sold to lodge businesses and the marketplace. With the income earned from the production of food products such as eggs, pasta and baked goods, the women and men can subsequently feed their children, pay for schooling and offer the new generation a better starting point for a decent life.

The aim of the educational program is to start the cycle of “water – life – education – work” in Africa!
